Fiance Visa For Your Future Colombian Wife

by on January 14, 2010

If you are thinking of  searching for a Colombian woman for marriage you might want to read some of the tips as published on a popular Colombian introduction site Colombian Introductions. We have a review of this Colombian Introduction agency on our main site. Below are a few points they make in regards to what you will need to obtain a fiance visa to bring your future Colombian wife home to America. These points are very important because if you don’t follow each step of the process to a T your application could be turned down and a costly investment you have made might fly out the window along with your Colombian honey.

My experience with the process when I brought my wife to this country went well and fast, faster than they describe below. It took us about 6 months to get her visa approved and she was on her way to a new life. We will post more on this subject in the coming months so stay tuned.

Here are some of the basics:
• You must meet your fiancée in order for her to qualify for a fiancée visa
• Your income must be 125% over the poverty guidelines or you must have a joint sponsor.
• Both you and your fiancée will have to undergo an interview to obtain a visa from the U.S. embassy or a consulate in her country. She will need to provide proof of your relationship, which might include, plane tickets, letters, e-mails, and photos.
• When she comes to the U.S., she must bring a valid passport, birth certificate, death and divorce certificates of any previous spouses, results of a medical exam, and evidence of support.
• Once she has landed, you typically need to get married within 90 days; otherwise, she may have to leave the country.
• Apply for permanent resident status for your fiancée as soon as possible. She will need to provide copies of her passport, birth certificate and other important documents.

There?s nothing like dealing with lawyers, government officials and paperwork to take the romance out of your wedding day, but this is all part of the process to achieve your goal. Be patient: The entire process is typically 18 months but there are cases when it can take up to 2-3 years, but once it?s complete, you?ll have the rest of your life to spend with your spouse.

Hi! I wanted to note that there are a couple of errors in the K1 visa description above:

- Only the fiancee needs to have the interview at the US consulate abroad. The U.S. citizen can always go as moral support, but in most cases, the consular officer will not allow the U.S. citizen to participate in the interview. It is up to the consular officer. Bottom line: If you can go to the interview, do it, it helps your fiancee stay calm and looks good to the consular officer. But make sure the consular officer knows you’re there!!!!

- The whole fiancee visa process is currently taking (for a K1 visa for someone from Colombia) about 7 months. After that, your fiancee can come to the U.S. and complete the adjustment of status (green card) process while being here.

Good luck finding your soulmate!!!!
